Starting July 2, foreign nationals can’t apply directly to certain Ontario immigration streams. Instead, their employers must now start the process.
Ontario will launch a new online employer portal on July 2. This will change how people apply through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
Now, employers must first submit job offer details to the portal. Only after that can candidates register their Expression of Interest (EOI).
This change applies to three specific OINP streams:
If you have already submitted an EOI, your profile will be automatically removed. You must now work with your employer to submit a new one.
Before this change, applicants led the process. They started their EOI and asked their employers to complete a supporting form.
June 20 to July 2:
The system won’t accept new EOIs during this time.
June 21–22:
All existing EOIs will expire and disappear from the system.
June 27–29:
The entire OINP system will shut down temporarily for all programs.
July 2:
The new employer portal opens. Employers can now register and send job offer details.
After that, foreign nationals can submit EOIs again—with help from their employers.
Anyone submitting a new EOI after July 2 will be considered for future program draws. These EOIs will stay valid for 12 months.
The province says more details about this new employer-led process will come soon.
Ontario is also planning a few more changes to improve the OINP system.
These changes aim to make the OINP more secure, fair, and transparent for both employers and applicants.
