Saskatchewan Immigration Program Hits Mid-Year Milestone

Saskatchewan has released new data showing it has already used more than half of its provincial immigration allocation for 2026. The update comes from the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), which tracks nominations issued throughout the year.

Over Half of Allocation Already Used

As of June 30, 2026, the province has issued 2,628 nominations. This represents about 55% of its total allocation of 4,761 spaces for the year.

The allocation remains unchanged from 2025, meaning the province is working within the same overall quota as last year.

Officials say the SINP updates its nomination data every quarter to keep the process transparent and track demand across different sectors.

Breakdown by Sector

The nomination spaces are divided into three main categories: priority sectors, capped sectors, and other sectors.

Priority sectors received the largest share, with 2,380 spaces. Capped sectors were assigned 1,190 spaces, while other sectors received 1,191.

So far, priority sectors have used 1,466 nominations, which is 62% of their allocation. Capped sectors have used 718 nominations, or 60%, while other sectors have used 444 nominations, equal to 37%.

Overall, Saskatchewan still has 2,133 nomination spaces available for the rest of the year.

Key Priority Industries Identified

The province has identified seven key priority sectors for 2026. These include healthcare, agriculture, skilled trades, mining, manufacturing, energy, and technology.

These industries are considered important for labour market growth and long-term economic needs.

Saskatchewan has also set aside 750 nomination spaces specifically for graduates from Saskatchewan-based institutions working in priority occupations.

Officials note that the 50% target for priority sectors may change depending on demand during the year.

Capped Sectors and Restrictions

Capped sectors include accommodation and food services, retail trade and other services, and trucking.

These sectors account for 25% of total nominations and have stricter limits to manage demand and labour market balance.

Employers in capped sectors can only apply during fixed intake periods. They are also limited to hiring workers who have six months or less remaining on their work permits.

In contrast, employers in priority and other sectors can submit applications at any time, without waiting for specific intake windows.

Upcoming Intake Windows

Saskatchewan has announced upcoming intake dates for capped sectors. The next round begins July 6 and July 7, with applications opening at different times depending on the sector.

Trucking will open first, followed by retail trade, accommodations, and food services. Each category has a limited number of spots available, and applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The province will also hold a webinar on July 2 at 11 a.m. to explain the intake process and answer questions.

Two additional intake windows are scheduled later in the year on September 14 and November 2.

Mid-Year Review Planned

Officials say a mid-year review will assess whether the current allocation balance remains appropriate. If demand is higher in certain sectors, adjustments may be made to redistribute nomination spaces.

The province emphasized that capped and priority sectors may shift slightly depending on labour market needs.
