Northern Lakes College is an agile post-secondary institution that believes first and foremost in accessibility. The innovative Supported Distance Learning (SDL) delivery model developed by Northern Lakes College ensures programs and services are accessible to students at home, work, or on campus. SDL provides learners with a flexible instructor-led learning environment, tutoring, and educational supports, along with counselling, library, IT, and career services. Northern Lakes College is about more than online learning; it’s about meeting every student need, wherever the student may be.
SDL means that NLC is not bound to traditional, cohort-based offerings. Collectively, NLC builds student cohorts from across the province, which means programming can be available to a community with a minimum number of registered students. Students are able to complete the theory portion of their program from their home community, with travel required only if there are specialized practical or lab aspects to their program.
Northern Lakes College contributes to community development, leadership capacity, and vibrant communities through a unique partnership with a network of local, Community Education Committees (CEC). Each community with an NLC campus has a CEC, and these committees ensure that local residents have access to the education and training suitable to their needs and goals. Committee members also promote and share College programs and news. Together, we are able to meet the unique needs of the community and its learners.
Committed to its communities and to its students, NLC collaborates with business, industry, and other post-secondary institutions to benefit students and communities. Offering a broad mix of programming in Academic Upgrading, Apprenticeship Trades, Business and Administrative studies, Continuing Education & Corporate Training, Dual Credit, Health and Human Service Careers, Pre-employment Trades, Resource Technology, and University Studies, NLC also has collaborative agreements with the University of Calgary for a Bachelor of Social Work and Community-Based Bachelor of Education.
