Alberta invited close to 900 foreign workers to apply for provincial nomination through two immigration draws held on February 20 and February 24, 2026.
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) issued a total of 899 invitations across the two rounds. Officials focused mainly on workers in priority sectors under the Alberta Opportunity Stream. The province also held its first Tourism and Hospitality Stream draw of the year.
These selections marked Alberta’s 11th and 12th immigration draws in 2026.
On February 20, Alberta invited 831 candidates under the Alberta Opportunity Stream for priority sectors. Candidates needed a minimum score of 56 to receive an invitation.
Four days later, on February 24, the province selected 68 candidates under the Tourism and Hospitality Stream. Applicants in this category required a minimum score of 73.
The number of invitations and required scores differed between the two streams, reflecting labour needs in specific sectors.
As of February 26, Alberta has issued 612 nominations in 2026. The federal government granted the province 6,403 nomination spaces for the year. That leaves 5,791 spaces still available.
The AAIP currently has 1,032 applications under review. If officials approve those files, they will count toward the remaining nomination spots.
Alberta continues to see strong interest from foreign workers. As of February 26, the candidate pool held 45,698 active Expressions of Interest (EOIs) across all streams.
When workers submit an EOI, they enter a selection pool and wait for the province to invite them to apply for nomination. Alberta can invite candidates to a different stream than the one they selected if they meet all requirements.
The Alberta Opportunity Stream accounts for the largest share of candidates. It holds 28,916 EOIs, which make up about 64 per cent of the total pool.
Other streams show the following numbers:
The Alberta Opportunity Stream leads with 3,425 nomination spaces for 2026. So far, officials have issued 403 nominations, leaving 3,022 spots open. The province currently reviews applications received on or before November 1, 2025, with some exceptions related to work permit support letters.
The Rural Renewal Stream has 1,000 spaces this year. Officials have issued fewer than 10 nominations so far and continue to review applications received up to February 10, 2026.
The Tourism and Hospitality Stream has 150 total spaces, with 32 nominations already granted and 118 remaining. Officers review applications received up to February 24, 2026.
Dedicated Health Care Pathways have 500 spaces. Alberta has issued 47 nominations and continues to assess recent applications.
The Accelerated Tech Pathway has 600 spots, with 54 nominations issued to date. The Priority sector initiatives under Express Entry also have 600 spaces, with 68 nominations already granted.
Entrepreneur streams have 90 spaces this year. Officials evaluate those applications as they receive them.
