IRCC Unveils 2025 Express Entry Schedule For Category-Based Draws

IRCC announces its schedule for Express Entry invitations through the end of 2025.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has shared its plan for Express Entry invitations for the rest of 2025. The plan focuses on candidates in high-demand sectors like education, healthcare, and trades.

The current schedule aligns with Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2025-2027. Most invitations issued in the second half of 2025 aim to support 2026 targets.

Mandeep Lidher, a Calgary-based immigration consultant, obtained the details through an Access to Information Request.

Category-Based Draws

IRCC started category-based Express Entry draws in 2023. These draws focus on candidates with specific skills and work experience in priority sectors.

According to the ATIP report, the allocation of invitations for 2025 is as follows:

  • Education: 3,000 ITAs planned; 1,000 already issued; 2,000 remain.
  • Healthcare: 8,000 ITAs planned; 7,500 already issued; 500 remain.
  • Trades: 3,300 ITAs planned; none issued yet.

These figures suggest several draws will happen in the last five months of 2025.

In total, IRCC plans six category-based draws in 2025: healthcare and social services, STEM, trades, agriculture and agri-food, education, and French-language proficiency.

Francophone Immigration Focus

The report highlights the federal government’s goal to increase Francophone immigration outside Quebec.

“The French-proficiency rounds held from February to March 2025, which issued 18,500 ITAs, support the 8.5% French admission target for 2025,” the report notes.

IRCC also held a French-proficiency draw on August 8. The 2,500 ITAs issued are expected to support 2026 targets.

ITA Calendar for Provinces and Territories

IRCC will share an ITA calendar with provinces and territories. The calendar covers a three-month period and includes expected weeks for draws, types of rounds, and minimum score projections.

This calendar will help provinces and territories plan their future nominations efficiently.

Canada’s Express Entry system continues to focus on attracting skilled workers in areas with the highest demand. The upcoming draws will target key sectors while also supporting national immigration targets for both 2025 and 2026.
