Top-Scoring Express Entry Profiles Grow as Pool Numbers Decline

The number of high-ranking Express Entry profiles increased between August 17 and September 28, even though the total number of candidates in the pool dropped by more than 3,100.

The largest jump came from profiles in the 501–600 range, which rose by 1,601. Profiles in the 601–1,200 range also climbed by 100. These changes made the pool far more competitive, especially for those aiming to secure an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

Changes Across Score Ranges
The pool shrank to 250,993 profiles by the end of September. The most notable declines occurred in the mid-range scores. Candidates in the 451–470 group saw drops of over 2,500 combined. Those in the 471–480 range decreased by 1,885.

Meanwhile, modest growth appeared in ranges such as 401–430 and 481–490. Overall, the data shows a clear shift toward stronger candidate profiles, which tightens competition for those with lower Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores.

Understanding Score Distribution
As of September 28, the largest share of candidates—more than 53,000—held CRS scores between 351 and 400. This group made up 21% of the pool. By comparison, just 288 profiles scored above 600, representing only 0.11% of candidates.

At the same time, nearly 25,000 candidates fell into the 501–600 range. This group now makes up close to 10% of the entire pool. Percentile rankings show that candidates in this range fall between the 90th and 99th percentile, meaning they are among the strongest contenders.

September’s Draw Activity
In September, the immigration department issued 10,018 ITAs across several draws. This total was 3,601 higher than in August and marked the third-highest monthly ITA count of 2025.

The month featured five different types of draws. These included provincial nominee draws, category-based draws, and one Canadian Experience Class draw. A major highlight was the French-language proficiency draw, which invited 4,500 candidates with CRS scores of at least 446.

A new trades draw also took place. On September 18, 1,250 trades workers with at least six months of experience received invitations. Other draws targeted education candidates, provincial nominees, and skilled workers under the Canadian Experience Class.

Year-to-Date Context
Looking back at 2025, February and March remain the highest months for ITAs issued, with more than 11,000 and 13,000 invitations respectively. September’s results, however, stand out compared to recent months.

The steady rise in invitations highlights the government’s focus on category-based draws while keeping the pool competitive. Candidates with higher CRS scores remain in a stronger position, while those in lower ranges face growing challenges.
