Latest IRCC Processing Times for Canadian Immigration – June 2025

In June 2025, Canada shared new wait times for visas, PR cards, citizenship, and family sponsorship applications

On June 17, 2025, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released its newest processing time updates. This information is important for people applying for visas, permanent residency, citizenship, or passports. These updates help applicants understand how long their cases might take and plan accordingly.

How IRCC calculates times

IRCC updates processing times regularly. They aim to process 80% of applications within the stated time. Since 2022, IRCC uses advanced data tools to give more accurate estimates. Temporary visa and PR card times update weekly. Citizenship, PR, and family sponsorship times update monthly. Times change based on demand and IRCC’s capacity.

Citizenship processing

As of June 5, 2025, citizenship applications take about 10 months. Getting a citizenship certificate takes 5 months, which is one month longer than before. Renouncing citizenship takes 7 months. Some types, like resuming citizenship, have no new data yet. People who applied before April 28, 2025, should expect an official receipt soon.

Permanent Residency (PR) cards

PR card processing times have risen slightly. New cards now take 50 days, up by one day. Renewals take 15 days, also up one day. IRCC advises submitting complete forms to avoid extra delays.

Family sponsorships

Times vary by region, especially Quebec, which often takes longer. For example:

  • Spouse/common-law sponsorship outside Quebec: 11 months (up 1 month)
  • Spouse/common-law sponsorship in Quebec: 37 months (up 1 month)
  • Spouse/common-law sponsorship inside Canada (non-Quebec): 34 months (up 5 months)
  • Parents/grandparents sponsorship outside Quebec: 36 months (no change)
  • Parents/grandparents sponsorship in Quebec: 48 months (no change)

Quebec’s longer times come from its own immigration rules, so applicants should plan carefully.

Passport processing

Passport times remain steady:

  • New passport in person: 10 business days
  • New passport by mail: 20 business days
  • Urgent pick-up: next business day
  • Express pick-up: 2 to 9 business days

Passports mailed from outside Canada also take 20 business days.

Economic class permanent residency

Skilled worker programs have these times as of June 5, 2025:

  • Canadian Experience Class: 5 months (no change)
  • Federal Skilled Worker: 6 months (up 1 month)
  • Provincial Nominee Program via Express Entry: 8 months (up 3 months)
  • Non-Express Entry PNP: 19 months (down 1 month)
  • Quebec Skilled Worker: 9 months (no change)
  • Federal Self-Employed: 55 months (up 2 months)
  • Atlantic Immigration Program: 12 months (up 1 month)
  • Start-Up Visa: 43 months (up 2 months)

Temporary visas

Times differ by country and visa type. Some examples from June 17, 2025:

  • Visitor visa for India: 24 days (up 3 days)
  • Visitor visa for the U.S.: 20 days (up 1 day)
  • Study permit for India: 4 weeks (down 1 week)
  • Study permit inside Canada: 14 weeks (up 6 weeks)
  • Work permit for India: 13 weeks (up 1 week)
  • Work permit inside Canada: 210 days (down 15 days)

Tips for a smooth process

  • Always submit complete applications to avoid delays.
  • Check IRCC updates often since times change.
  • Quebec applications often take longer; plan ahead.
  • Use official IRCC resources for help.

IRCC’s latest updates show mixed processing times. Some services take longer, others faster. Staying informed helps applicants plan better. Whether you want to study, work, reunite with family, or become a citizen, knowing these timelines is key to a smoother immigration journey.
