On May 15, Manitoba asked 62 skilled workers from other countries to apply for immigration through its Skilled Workers Overseas program.
Manitoba recently invited 62 skilled workers living outside Canada to apply for provincial immigration. The invitations went out through the Skilled Workers Overseas stream of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) on May 15. This draw mainly focused on people who have strong personal or professional connections to the province.
Only candidates who had already submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) and were directly invited by the MPNP under a strategic recruitment plan were considered. Out of the 62 people selected, eight had valid Express Entry profile numbers and job validation codes. The lowest score among those invited was 626.
This immigration path is for people living outside Canada. To qualify, they must prove a clear connection to Manitoba. This could be through family or friends living in the province, past work or study experience in Manitoba, or an official invitation from the MPNP as part of a strategic hiring initiative.
Besides showing a connection, applicants must also score at least 60 points on a 100-point scale. Manitoba uses this scoring system to assess things like age, education, job experience, language skills, and adaptability to life in the province.
Manitoba uses these programs to help local businesses find skilled workers when they can’t fill jobs locally. The province works with employers who urgently need employees and can’t find them in the local labour market. These employers must meet certain rules and complete a specific recruitment process.
Once approved, the employers can suggest foreign workers who fit all the program requirements. These include things like job experience, education, age, and language ability. The job offer must be full-time and either permanent or long-term. The person must also plan to live in Manitoba.
People chosen through these initiatives are often those looking to settle outside Winnipeg, in smaller communities around the province. Importantly, individuals cannot apply for this type of invitation on their own. The MPNP chooses them based on need and eligibility.
This latest draw shows that Manitoba continues to look for skilled workers globally, especially those with real ties to the province. The province is working hard to meet labour shortages and help employers connect with talented individuals ready to make Manitoba their home.
