On May 8, Newfoundland and Labrador selected 328 people to apply for immigration through its newly introduced Expression of Interest system.
Newfoundland and Labrador has held its second round of immigration invitations under a new system. The draws happened on May 8, 2025. A total of 328 people received invitations to apply.
Out of these, 281 were invited through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP). The remaining 47 were picked through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
This is the second draw since the province launched its new Expression of Interest (EOI) system. The first draw took place on April 3 and gave out 256 invitations.
About the New EOI System
The province started using this new system on February 19, 2025. It now covers both the NLPNP and the AIP.
To be considered, candidates must first create an account on the province’s online Immigration Accelerator. They then submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).
Once submitted, an EOI stays active in the system for 12 months. If selected, the person will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
After getting an ITA, NLPNP candidates must apply within 60 days. AIP candidates must have their employer send the application within the same time frame.
Important to Know
Receiving an ITA does not mean permanent residence is guaranteed. Applicants must still prove they meet the program rules. They also need to be allowed to enter and live in Canada legally.
Before the EOI system, people could apply directly to immigration pathways. Now, submitting an EOI is the first step.
Extra Immigration Spaces Secured
Like other provinces, Newfoundland and Labrador faced a cut in immigration spaces for 2025. The number of spots was reduced by half.
The province worked with the federal government to solve this issue. It successfully secured 1,000 extra spaces for economic immigration. This brought the total number of immigration spots for 2025 to 2,525.
Important Rule for Applicants Outside Canada
Those applying from outside the country need a special invite code. This code must come from the employer. It must be included when submitting the EOI.
However, people already living in Canada with valid temporary status don’t need this invite code. They can submit their application without it.
The latest draw shows that Newfoundland and Labrador continues to welcome skilled immigrants. With the new EOI system in place, the province aims to manage its immigration process more smoothly. Candidates must follow all steps carefully and stay informed about new updates.
