Canada began inviting people on July 28 to sponsor their parents and grandparents through the family reunification program.
The federal government begins sending invitations to apply (ITAs) for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) starting July 28. Permanent residents and Canadian citizens who want to sponsor their parents or grandparents will be chosen through a random lottery.
Only those who submitted an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020 and didn’t get selected in past years (2020–2024) will receive invitations this year.
Immigration officials plan to send 17,860 invitations. Their goal is to approve 10,000 full applications for permanent residency through this program.
