Sudbury Shares New Job List for Permanent Residency Pathway

Sudbury has named key jobs and work areas for two new immigration programs, RCIP and FCIP.

Sudbury has revealed the main sectors and jobs it will focus on under two immigration pilots. These are the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP).

These programs help foreign workers apply for permanent residence in Canada. Only designated employers can support these applications. These employers must belong to selected sectors.

Sudbury Joins Two Immigration Pilots
Sudbury, a large city in Northeastern Ontario, is part of both RCIP and FCIP. It covers nearby communities like Killarney, St.-Charles, and Noelville.

For 2025, Sudbury received 525 nomination slots under the RCIP and 45 under the FCIP. Employers in chosen sectors can apply to hire foreign workers for specific jobs.

RCIP: Sectors and Jobs Announced
Sudbury selected five sectors for the RCIP:

  • Health
  • Education and community services
  • Trades and transport
  • Natural and applied sciences
  • Natural resources and agriculture

Only employers in these sectors can take part. Job offers must match approved occupations.

Some of the top RCIP occupations include:

  • Registered nurses
  • Mechanical and mining engineers
  • Early childhood educators
  • Truck drivers
  • Welders
  • Civil engineering technicians
  • Dental assistants
  • Bookkeepers
  • Heavy equipment mechanics
  • Home support workers

These jobs help fill local labour gaps. Workers must meet other requirements like education, language ability, and work experience.

FCIP: Focus on French-Speaking Workers
FCIP targets workers who know French at an intermediate level. This pilot supports cultural and economic needs in communities with French heritage.

Sudbury’s five FCIP sectors are:

  • Health
  • Business and administration
  • Trades and transport
  • Arts and recreation
  • Education and community services

Key jobs under the FCIP include:

  • Pharmacists
  • Teachers (elementary and secondary)
  • College instructors
  • Nurses and caregivers
  • Graphic designers
  • Financial advisors
  • Marketing professionals
  • Welders
  • Truck drivers

Applicants must have a job offer and meet the basic requirements for language, funds, and experience.

How to Apply and Important Dates
Employers must first apply to become designated. Only then can they support an applicant.

The next intake period runs from June 23 to June 27. Employers needed to apply for designation by June 12 to take part.

If chosen, the foreign national can apply for permanent residence using a special recommendation form. They can also apply for a temporary work permit while waiting.

Only six communities in Canada are part of the FCIP. So far, only Sudbury and Timmins (also in Ontario) have released full job and sector lists.
