Yukon has announced that it will accept just 215 immigration nominations next year.
Yukon has shared how it will handle immigration nominations for 2025. The territory received 215 total nomination spots for the year. These are given through the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP). The federal government reduced Yukon’s usual number of nominations by 50%, making the program more competitive.
Breakdown of nomination slots
Here’s how Yukon plans to use the 215 nominations:
With demand for nominations much higher than the supply, Yukon introduced an Expression of Interest (EOI) system. Employers now send in EOIs for the workers they want to nominate. The YNP then picks the most eligible applicants based on priority.
New system brings big changes
Before 2025, employers applied directly to the YNP for workers. They didn’t need to wait for an invitation. But due to limited spaces, Yukon changed the system. Employers now need to wait for an invitation to apply before nominating a worker. The EOI intake window opened from March 31 to April 22, 2025.
Yukon has already received more EOIs than available nomination spaces. Officials said they don’t expect to reopen the EOI intake again this year.
Invitations already going out
The territory has started sending out invitations for 2025. If a nominee didn’t get an invitation yet, there is still a chance. YNP may issue more later this year depending on how many applications are approved.
Who gets top priority?
Yukon is focusing on foreign workers already living in the territory. These are people who received temporary support letters last year. These letters were given to workers whose employers planned to nominate them for PR in 2025 or 2026.
After handling those applications, the rest of the nominations will be decided by a random draw. Only eligible applicants will enter that draw. These include:
Support letters helped workers stay longer
In March 2025, Yukon launched a support letter program. This helped foreign workers whose work permits were ending. They could apply for a Yukon-only work permit valid for two more years. To qualify, the worker’s employer needed to commit to nominating them in 2025 or 2026. Applications for this support opened from March 19 to April 2.
Yukon is managing its smaller 2025 nomination slots with care. The new EOI system makes the process stricter. The main goal is to help workers already living in the territory and to support local employers. With limited spaces, it’s important for hopeful applicants to stay informed and prepared.
