Thunder Bay Shares Employer List for New PR Immigration Path

Thunder Bay has shared the names of local employers chosen for the RCIP.

Thunder Bay, a city in northwestern Ontario, has just shared its list of approved employers under the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP). This program helps skilled foreign workers become permanent residents of Canada. But to qualify, candidates must get a job offer from a specific employer based in the city.

What is the RCIP?

RCIP is a special immigration program meant to support smaller communities. It gives foreign nationals a chance to get permanent residency, but only if they work for a business approved by the local economic group. In Thunder Bay, this group is called the Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC).

Who Are the Approved Employers?

Thunder Bay has officially released a list of businesses now allowed to hire foreign workers through the RCIP. Some of these include:

  • Circle K (several locations)
  • Golden Wok restaurant
  • Guac Mexi Grill
  • Kasper Bus Lines
  • Scott Family Dental
  • Shoppers Drug Mart
  • Shelter House
  • Village Market
  • Wasabi Restaurant

There are over 25 businesses on the list from various industries such as food, healthcare, retail, construction, and transportation. These businesses have gone through the approval process by the city’s CEDC and are now ready to hire eligible foreign workers.

How to Qualify for the Program?

To be considered for the RCIP in Thunder Bay, you must first receive a job offer from one of the designated employers. But that’s not the only requirement. The job also needs to fall under a “priority occupation” as listed by the community. Thunder Bay shared this priority list last month.

Candidates must also meet several conditions, including:

  • Enough work experience in their field
  • Minimum language skills in English or French
  • Recognized education
  • Proof of settlement funds

Once a worker gets the job offer, the employer must apply to the CEDC on behalf of the worker. If everything checks out, the foreign national can move forward and apply to the federal government for Canadian permanent residency.

Other Communities Involved

Thunder Bay is not alone in this initiative. It is one of 14 communities chosen to participate in the RCIP. Recently, Timmins also revealed its designated employers. Timmins is part of both the RCIP and a similar program called the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP).

Other participating communities that have shared their job priority lists include:

  • Claresholm
  • Brandon
  • Sault Ste. Marie
  • North Bay
  • North Okanagan-Shuswap

Each of these places has its own list of employers and in-demand jobs.

Why This Matters

The RCIP helps smaller towns and cities attract skilled workers while giving foreign nationals a clear path to settle in Canada. With Thunder Bay’s new list, more people now have a real chance to start their Canadian journey in this welcoming northern city.
