Steinbach has started a new immigration program for workers in rural areas.
Steinbach, Manitoba’s third-largest city, has revealed the key sectors and jobs included in its new Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP). This program helps foreign workers become permanent residents if they get a job offer from approved local employers.
Where the Program Covers
This pilot covers not only Steinbach but also nearby communities. These include the rural areas of Ste. Anne, Piney, La Broquerie, and the towns of Landmark and Vita.
How RCIP Works
The RCIP is driven by employers. That means anyone applying for permanent residence through this pathway must first get a job offer from a registered employer in the community. Besides that, applicants must meet the program’s general rules about work experience, education, and language.
Priority Sectors
Each community in the pilot can select five main sectors. Steinbach chose:

How the Program Selects Candidates
Only employers who work in one of Steinbach’s five priority sectors can take part in this program. Also, the job offer must match one of the approved NOC codes.
The local development office, called SED, hasn’t shared the total number of spots available. But they confirmed that up to five people can get a recommendation each month. This works on a first-come, first-served basis.
Application Timeline and Limits
Applications open on the 1st of each month. The window closes on the 15th, or earlier if they get seven complete applications.
Each month, only one person can be recommended for each job code. In a year, no more than two people can be chosen per job code.
However, some health-related jobs don’t follow this limit. These include general doctors, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and patient care aides.
Who Can Apply?
To apply, a foreign worker needs:
Once these steps are complete, they can apply for permanent residence directly through the federal government.
