Ontario’s 2025 immigration plan focuses on 9 key jobs in health and tech.
Ontario’s Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) continues to be one of the most direct ways to get permanent residency in Canada. The province shared new data on July 11, 2025, highlighting important trends from last year and what to expect this year.
In 2024, Ontario had a quota of 21,500 nominations. The province used up all of them by December. However, in 2025, that number is almost cut in half. The new quota stands at just 10,750. Because of this, Ontario is focusing more on the right jobs and key sectors.
In 2024, just nine jobs made up 45% of all nominations. That’s over 9,500 of the 21,000 total spots. These jobs are likely to stay important in 2025 too.
Healthcare Jobs (15% of all nominations):
Ontario’s hospitals and clinics need more workers. These healthcare roles received over 3,200 nominations:
These jobs are essential to the healthcare system and remain top priorities.
Tech Jobs (30% of all nominations):
Ontario also needs tech workers. More than 6,300 nominations went to IT roles in 2024. These include:
Ontario plans to focus on these fields again this year.
The nominations were divided across different categories. Here are the most used ones:
On July 2, 2025, OINP introduced a new rule. They can now return applications if they do not meet the current job needs. If this happens, applicants will get a full refund. This helps the province select candidates who fit the labour market better.
So, it’s more important than ever to apply carefully, especially for jobs in healthcare and tech.
Ontario will still look for skilled workers. But with fewer spots, the competition will be stronger.
Here’s what to know:
Applicants should follow updates and apply early to increase their chances.
