Workers in Ontario’s utilities industry are taking home the biggest paycheques this year, earning close to $119,000 annually.
If you’re planning a career change or simply want to earn more, Ontario delivers some attractive pay cheques in 2025. Latest data from the national statistics agency show the highest-paying sectors in the province based on median weekly earnings. These figures include bonuses, overtime and tips — not just base wages.
Utilities at the top
The top earner is the utilities industry — that includes electricity generation, natural gas and water treatment. Workers here make a median of $2,288.40 per week, which translates to nearly $119,000 a year. Wages rose strongly year-over-year and month-to-month. The hourly rate works out to about $61.24. This sector pays so well partly because the services run 24/7 and require advanced technical skills.
Professional, scientific & technical services
In second place is the sector covering law, accounting, architecture, engineering, IT and research. Median weekly wages hit $1,923.20 (about $100,000 a year). Hourly pay averages around $53.73 — well above the national level. Although long hours and higher education are common, the reward comes in six-figure earnings for many roles.
Public administration
Government jobs at municipal, provincial and federal levels rank third. Median weekly earnings sit at $1,750.08 — about $91,000 a year. These jobs pay around $48.20 an hour, offering reliable income, manageable hours and strong benefits.
Natural resources
Jobs in mining, forestry and quarrying show median weekly earnings of $1,700 (roughly $88,400 a year). While this is solid pay, the sector slipped slightly from the previous month and lags the national median because of fewer oil-and-gas operations in Ontario. Many roles include shift or remote-site supplements.
Finance, insurance, real estate & leasing
This diverse sector includes banking, insurance, real estate services and leasing. It offers a median weekly wage of $1,610.80 (around $83,800 a year) and an average hourly rate of $47.58. With the booming finance scene in Toronto, high-bonus and commission-based roles drive the income.
Education and construction jobs pay too
Education jobs (from kindergarten to university) now show median weekly earnings of $1,442.16 (~$74,992 a year). The hourly rate averages $43.78, and pay rose about 7.3 % year-over-year despite seasonal dips.
Construction jobs post a median weekly wage of $1,440 (~$74,880 a year). Hourly pay runs at $38.53 and is growing due to demand for certified trades and large infrastructure projects.
Other sectors
Manufacturing workers earn a median of about $1,230.80 (~$64,000 a year) with hourly wages around $35.66.
Transportation & warehousing come in at a median weekly wage of $1,125 (~$58,500 a year) although pay dipped this year.
Healthcare & social assistance roles earn the same median weekly wage of $1,120 (~$58,240 annually) with hourly pay around $35.58, showing steady year-over-year growth.
