Canada has invited 229 physicians with Canadian work experience to apply for permanent residence.
Canada has invited 229 physicians with Canadian work experience to apply for permanent residence through the Express Entry system.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued the invitations in its latest Express Entry draw on September 3. Candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 198 to receive an invitation.
They also had to create their Express Entry profile before 7:40 p.m. UTC on August 6, 2026.
The latest round was specifically aimed at physicians with Canadian work experience. It was the third Express Entry draw for this group in 2026.
The 229 invitations represent the lowest number issued in the three physician-focused draws held this year. At the same time, the CRS cut-off of 198 was the second-highest recorded for this category.
Earlier in the year, IRCC invited 271 physicians on June 24, with a CRS cut-off of 223. In February, 391 physicians received invitations after meeting a CRS cut-off of 169.
The September 3 draw brought the number of Express Entry rounds held in 2026 to 52.
Canadian Experience Class candidates have received 15 draws so far this year, while the Provincial Nominee Program has accounted for 17. French-language candidates have been selected in 10 draws.
IRCC has also held three physician-focused draws, two draws for healthcare and social services workers, and two for senior managers with Canadian work experience.
Trades, transport and skilled military recruits have each been targeted in one draw.
The latest selections continue a broader pattern in 2026, with IRCC giving considerable attention to candidates who already have connections to Canada through work experience or provincial nominations.
IRCC has issued 117,656 invitations to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry draws so far this year.
The Canadian Experience Class accounts for the largest share, with 51,250 invitations. French-language proficiency draws have produced another 50,500 invitations.
The Provincial Nominee Program has resulted in 7,961 invitations, while healthcare and social services candidates have received 8,000.
Physicians with Canadian work experience have received 891 invitations across three draws.
Other categories have also received invitations in 2026. Trades candidates received 3,000, skilled military recruits received four, transport candidates received 300, and senior managers with Canadian work experience received 750.
The latest physician-focused selection gives eligible doctors with Canadian work experience another opportunity to move toward permanent residence.
However, receiving an invitation does not automatically grant permanent residence. Candidates who receive an ITA must submit a complete permanent residence application and meet all applicable requirements before IRCC can make a final decision.
