Canada is developing a new digital Express Entry platform, with implementation expected to extend into 2027.
Canada is preparing a new digital system for Express Entry, with immigration officials identifying the program as an early priority in a wider technology overhaul.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) says the first release of its replacement case management platform will include a new Expression of Interest system for Express Entry applications. The department also plans to bring Express Entry candidates into a consolidated online account already used by some visitors and passport applicants.
IRCC has not announced a launch date, month or quarter. In transition documents updated September 4, 2026, the department lists the first case management release among its priorities for “the coming year,” a window extending into 2027.
The changes involve two connected parts: an online account for applicants and a new platform for immigration officers.
IRCC introduced its newer online account to eligible visitor visa applicants in June 2024 and expanded it to some adult passport renewal applicants that December. By January 31, 2026, more than 123,000 people had used the account to apply for visitor visas. Express Entry clients are next in line.
Behind the scenes, the new platform is intended to replace the Global Case Management System, which IRCC has used for more than 20 years. It is expected to bring together application records, reporting, data and tools for managing workloads.
The department intends to introduce the platform in stages rather than moving every immigration service to a replacement system simultaneously.
IRCC also plans to use automation and artificial intelligence to assist officers; it has not said AI will make final immigration decisions independently.
The new Expression of Interest software does not mean Canada is introducing an entirely new immigration program.
Express Entry has used an expression-of-interest model since 2015. Candidates submit profiles, eligible applicants enter a pool, and the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) ranks them for invitation rounds.
The modernization documents announce no changes to CRS points, eligibility, draw categories or invitation numbers. Immigration policy may change separately, but this technology project does not itself establish new selection rules.
IRCC has not asked candidates to create new profiles or transfer documents. Applicants should continue using their existing authorized accounts, keep their information current and follow the usual instructions. People who receive invitations must still respect the existing 60-day application deadline.
The department has not explained how current profiles will transfer, whether login details will remain valid or when older portals will close.
IRCC says the overhaul aims to improve reliability, reduce outages and help staff manage applications. With more than 1.5 million immigration and citizenship applications awaiting final decisions as of May 31, 2026, the department faces substantial processing demands.
Until it publishes transition instructions, the current Express Entry system remains in use.
