Canada will continue offering immigration support to Ukrainians under CUAET until 2026.
Canada has extended special immigration measures for Ukrainians under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET). Those who arrived on or before March 31, 2024, can apply for an extension of their work permit, study permit, or visitor status until March 31, 2026.
However, Ukrainians who arrived after March 31, 2024, must follow the standard application process and pay regular fees. Those who applied before but have not received a decision are not eligible for expedited processing. The government is still reviewing some applications from 2023 due to their complexity.
CUAET gives eligible Ukrainians a chance to gain permanent residence. Many immigration programs require work experience or higher education, which can be earned through work or study permits.
Canada’s Express Entry system offers three programs for skilled workers:
Applicants are ranked based on factors like work experience, education, and language skills. Those with higher scores have a better chance of getting permanent residency.
Another option is Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), which help candidates with strong ties to specific provinces gain PR faster.
Since its launch in March 2022, CUAET has helped 298,128 Ukrainians enter Canada. Over 1.18 million applications were submitted, and more than 962,000 were approved.
