IRCC Data Shows Drop in Top Express Entry Scores

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has released new Express Entry pool data showing a drop in the number of top-scoring candidates.

According to the July 5 update, the number of candidates with CRS scores above 500 fell from 20,953 on June 21 to 19,136. That means 1,817 fewer candidates were in the highest score ranges compared with the previous update.

The overall Express Entry pool also became smaller. IRCC reported 235,127 active profiles on July 5, down from 239,645 on June 21. This marks a decline of 4,518 profiles over the two-week period.

Where the Biggest Changes Happened

The largest drop was seen in the 501 to 600 CRS range. This group fell by 1,401 candidates, from 20,012 to 18,611.

Several other higher score ranges also saw clear declines. The 471 to 480 range dropped by 1,120 candidates. The 481 to 490 range fell by 1,043 candidates, while the 491 to 500 group declined by 476. The 601 to 1,200 range also dropped, falling from 941 candidates to 525.

At the same time, some middle score bands grew slightly. The 421 to 430 range rose by 286 candidates, while the 411 to 420 range increased by 255. The 451 to 460 group also rose by 251 candidates.

Pool Remains Competitive

The July 5 data shows that candidates with CRS scores above 500 still sit near the top of the pool.

Candidates in the 501 to 600 range fall between roughly the 91.86th and 99.78th percentile. Candidates scoring between 601 and 1,200 remain in the very top group, between the 99.78th and 100th percentile.

The figures mean that many candidates remain clustered in the middle and upper-middle CRS ranges, especially between 351 and 470. The largest single group remains the 351 to 400 range, with 51,096 candidates.

Recent Draws Not Included

The July 5 distribution does not include two Express Entry draws held after that date.

On July 6, IRCC issued 534 invitations through a Provincial Nominee Program draw. The lowest-ranked invited candidate had a CRS score of 708.

On July 7, IRCC issued 2,000 invitations through a Canadian Experience Class draw. The lowest-ranked invited candidate had a CRS score of 517.

Together, these two draws issued 2,534 invitations, but they are not reflected in the July 5 pool numbers.

Four Draws Shaped the Latest Update

Between June 21 and July 5, IRCC held four Express Entry draws and issued a total of 9,226 invitations.

On June 22, IRCC invited 955 Provincial Nominee Program candidates, with a cut-off score of 730. On June 23, it invited 4,000 Canadian Experience Class candidates, with a cut-off score of 516.

The department also held a June 24 draw for physicians with Canadian work experience, issuing 271 invitations with a cut-off score of 223. On June 25, IRCC invited 4,000 candidates in healthcare and social services occupations, with a cut-off score of 475.

How Express Entry Works

Express Entry is Canada’s main system for managing permanent residence applications for skilled workers who plan to live outside Quebec.

Candidates must first qualify for one of the eligible programs. They then receive a Comprehensive Ranking System score based on factors such as age, education, language ability, and work experience.

IRCC also uses category-based draws to invite candidates in priority areas. Current categories include French-language ability and work experience in fields such as healthcare, social services, trades, education, and transportation.
