Alberta Invites 295 New Immigrants Through Six Targeted Draws

Alberta has chosen 295 people for immigration through six recent selection rounds.

Alberta invited 295 new immigration candidates between April 29 and May 8, 2025. These candidates received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through six different draws under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). The province used six streams to pick candidates. Each one focused on specific labor needs like healthcare, rural development, and high-demand industries.

Focus on Priority Sectors and Health Workers
Three draws focused on Alberta's top priority sectors: agriculture, aviation, and construction. The remaining three targeted rural areas and healthcare workers. Alberta aims to solve workforce shortages in these areas. Health care continues to be one of the most needed sectors, so Alberta used both Express Entry and non-Express Entry pathways to invite health professionals.

Highlights of the Draws
Here’s a quick look at the draws:

  • May 8 – 35 invitations to health workers (non-Express Entry), cut-off score 53
  • May 6 – 20 invitations to aviation workers (Express Entry), score 51
  • May 5 – 165 invitations under Rural Renewal Stream, score 68
  • May 1 – 36 health workers (Express Entry), score 59
  • April 30 – 19 in agriculture (Express Entry), score 64
  • April 29 – 20 in construction (Express Entry), score 67

This was the first draw of the year aimed at construction workers. It shows Alberta is expanding its focus to meet changing labor demands.

Rural Renewal Stream Sees Big Numbers
The Rural Renewal Stream invited 165 people on May 5. This is the second-largest draw this year under this stream. The largest one was earlier in 2025 with 190 invitations. The stream continues to help small communities find skilled workers.

Fewer Spots for 2025
Alberta received 4,875 nomination spots for 2025 from the federal government. This is a 50% drop from last year’s 9,750. Despite this, the province is working to use its limited spots wisely by targeting specific labor shortages.

Nomination Numbers So Far
Here is a summary of the program's 2025 numbers:

  • Healthcare Pathways: 500 total spots, 358 left, 1,356 EOIs in pool, 123 applications in process
  • Priority Sectors (Agriculture, Aviation, Construction): 405 total spots, 281 left, 3,757 EOIs, 243 applications in process
  • Rural Renewal Stream: 950 total spots, 601 left, 3,623 EOIs, 1,948 applications in process

These numbers include both Express Entry and non-Express Entry streams combined for each category.

AAIP Remains Transparent
Alberta continues to update its immigration website with useful data. This helps applicants track how many spots are available, how many people are waiting, and how many applications are being processed.
