Canada Expands Program To Help Skilled Refugees Find Jobs

Canada has decided to keep its Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot running through December 2025.

Canada has once again shown strong support for refugees. It continues to be one of the top countries for welcoming people who are forced to leave their homes. The government is helping skilled refugees find work while also supporting local businesses that need more workers.

What Is the EMPP?
The Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) is a special program. It helps refugees and other displaced people with job skills move to Canada legally. It’s different from the traditional refugee programs. It focuses on skilled people who want to work and build a better life in Canada.

The EMPP started a few years ago. Since then, it has helped fill many jobs across the country. Many of these jobs are in areas where workers are urgently needed.

Where Skilled Refugees Are Working
Refugees in this program are working in healthcare, construction, and food services. These are areas where Canada has a big demand for workers. More than 30% of the people admitted through the EMPP are now working in the healthcare sector.

From 2019 to March 2025, Canada welcomed 970 people through this program. These workers are now living and working in Canadian communities. They are not just filling jobs—they are also contributing to the economy and making a fresh start for themselves.

Program Extended Until End of 2025
To help even more people, Canada has extended the EMPP until December 31, 2025. The federal stream of the program will now allow 950 applications in 2025 under the job offer stream. This extension is important for both newcomers and Canadian employers.

Many Canadian businesses are still struggling to find workers. This program gives them a chance to hire people who are ready to work and eager to contribute. At the same time, it offers skilled refugees a chance to settle down and rebuild their lives with dignity.

Why This Program Matters
The EMPP is not just about filling jobs. It’s about giving people hope. It offers a fresh start to those who had to leave their home countries. Canada is helping them find safety, stability, and purpose.

This program is also part of Canada’s larger immigration plan. The goal is to grow the economy, help communities thrive, and give people the chance to succeed.
