New IRCC figures reveal changing candidate rankings as Canada prepares to revise its Express Entry points system.
Canada's Express Entry pool recorded a modest decline in October, even as significant changes emerged across several Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score categories.
Figures released by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on October 26 show that the number of active profiles fell from 229,456 on October 12 to 228,724 on October 25, a decrease of 732 candidates.
The update offers a clearer picture of the competition facing prospective immigrants ahead of substantial changes to Express Entry's scoring system in November.
The sharpest decline occurred among candidates scoring between 501 and 600 CRS points. This category lost 1,103 profiles, bringing its total to 20,535.
Candidate numbers also fell across the 431–470 range, while the combined 301–430 categories gained 1,754 profiles.
The 351–400 bracket remained the largest individual category, accounting for 47,911 candidates, or approximately 21 per cent of the pool.
Meanwhile, the highest score category, 601–1,200, increased slightly to 787 candidates.
Although these movements reveal changes in the pool's composition, invitation prospects continue to depend on draw categories and selection requirements.
IRCC conducted three Express Entry draws between October 12 and 25, issuing 8,252 invitations to apply for permanent residence.
A Provincial Nominee Program draw on October 13 invited 752 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 772.
Two days later, a Canadian Experience Class draw issued 2,500 invitations at a cutoff of 519.
The October 16 French-language proficiency draw invited another 5,000 candidates, with the minimum score reaching 435.
These selections contributed to changes in the candidate pool during the reporting period.
Two additional draws took place after the October 25 reporting date and therefore do not appear in the latest pool figures.
On October 26, IRCC invited 792 provincial nominees with a minimum CRS score of 761. The following day, 5,000 French-language candidates received invitations at a cutoff of 407.
Together, these rounds issued 5,792 invitations.
The latest selections brought Canada's reported Express Entry invitation total for 2026 to 149,259, with French-language proficiency draws representing approximately 40.2 per cent.
Beginning November 3, 2026, IRCC plans to introduce the Labour Market Integration Factor, changing how eligible Canadian work experience and high-wage job offers contribute to CRS scores.
Under the revised framework, candidates may receive up to 150 points for Canadian work experience or 100 points for qualifying employment offers, whichever provides the higher score.
The changes cover 186 eligible high-wage occupations and introduce specific exemptions from Labour Market Impact Assessment requirements.
IRCC also plans to suspend invitation rounds temporarily while recalculating scores. The process could take up to two weeks.
For Express Entry candidates, the revised framework may significantly influence future rankings and invitation opportunities.
