Steinbach, Manitoba’s third-largest city, has announced its designated employers under the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP). This program helps foreign workers become permanent residents (PR) in Canada by working in smaller communities.
Communities Covered by the Program
The program includes Steinbach and nearby areas. These include rural municipalities like Ste. Anne, Piney, and La Broquerie. It also includes the towns of Landmark and Vita.
This gives skilled workers more chances to settle in Manitoba’s growing rural regions.
How the RCIP Works
To qualify for PR through RCIP, a foreign worker must first get a job offer from one of the designated employers. This offer then needs approval from a local economic development office.
Besides the job offer, applicants also need to meet certain requirements. These include work experience, language skills, education, and proof they can support themselves in Canada.
Designated Employers in Steinbach
Steinbach has officially named six employers for the RCIP. These are:
Foreign nationals must get jobs in Steinbach’s chosen priority sectors to apply through the RCIP. The community recently shared its list of key sectors and jobs in demand.
Steps for Applying
Once a foreign worker gets a job offer from a listed employer, the employer must apply to the Steinbach Economic Development (SED) office. They must do this during a specific intake window every month.
The intake opens on the first business day of the month at 9 a.m. It closes on the 15th at 5 p.m., or earlier if seven applications are received.
Each month, SED will process only five recommendation applications. The first intake runs from June 2 to June 15.
If the employer’s application is approved, the foreign worker will get a recommendation certificate. This document lets the worker apply for PR with the national immigration department.
Work While You Wait
While waiting for their PR application to be processed, applicants can also get a two-year work permit. This allows them to begin working and settling in Steinbach right away.
More About RCIP
The RCIP helps rural communities fill job openings and grow their local economies. It gives skilled workers a clear path to PR and life in smaller cities and towns.
So far, 14 communities across Canada are taking part in the RCIP. Some other places that have already shared their designated employers include Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie, and Thunder Bay in Ontario.
