Ontario has issued invitations to more than 900 international graduates, asking them to apply for provincial nomination in its most recent selection round.
Ontario has invited more than 900 international graduates to apply for provincial nomination through its immigration program. The province issued these invitations on April 22 under the Master’s Graduate and PhD Graduate streams. This marks the second round of selections in 2026.
Officials focused on candidates who already live in Canada and hold valid work or study permits. Many of these graduates completed advanced degrees at universities across Ontario.
Ontario sent out a total of 918 invitations in this round. Most of them went to candidates in the Master’s Graduate Stream, which received 674 invitations. The remaining 244 invitations went to PhD graduates.
Applicants needed to meet certain score levels to qualify. The Master’s stream required a minimum score of 61, while the PhD stream required a score of 56. Candidates also needed to create their profiles between April 22, 2025, and April 20, 2026.
This round showed a sharp rise in competition. Score requirements increased compared to the earlier draw held on March 18. The Master’s stream saw a jump of 31 points, while the PhD stream rose by 7 points.
The rise in scores suggests that more highly qualified candidates entered the pool after the previous draw. Unlike earlier rounds, Ontario did not ask applicants to show work experience under specific job categories.
This draw followed another round held on April 15, which focused on workers in priority sectors, including agriculture. The province had paused selections in these graduate streams for more than a year before resuming them in March. The last similar draw before that took place in September 2024.
Candidates who receive an invitation must act quickly. They need to log into the OINP e-Filing Portal and open their application using a file number that begins with “NMAS” or “NPHD.”
Applicants have 14 days from the date of invitation to submit a complete application. They must also meet the rule that allows only two years after completing their degree to apply. If more than two years have passed since graduation, they should decline the invitation.
After receiving a provincial nomination, candidates can apply for permanent residence through federal immigration authorities.
Ontario plans to reshape its immigration system soon. The province will remove several current categories, including streams for foreign workers, international students, and skilled trades.
In their place, Ontario plans to introduce four new pathways. These include a combined employer job offer stream, a healthcare-focused stream, an entrepreneur pathway, and a stream for exceptional talent. Authorities have not yet shared full details or timelines for these changes, which will begin on May 30, 2026.
