Alberta Targets In-Demand Workers in Seven PNP Draws

Alberta invited 1,550 candidates across seven AAIP draws targeting key labour needs.

Alberta issued 1,550 invitations to provincial nominee candidates across seven immigration draws held between May 20 and June 2.

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, known as the AAIP, invited selected candidates to apply for provincial nomination. The draws focused on workers in several in-demand sectors, including manufacturing, technology, agriculture, and construction.

Alberta published the draw results on its official webpage on June 2. As of the report, the province had held 43 provincial immigration draws in 2026.

Alberta Opportunity Stream Leads Invitations

The 1,550 invitations were issued through three streams.

The Alberta Opportunity Stream received the largest share of invitations, accounting for 64.1 per cent of all invites issued during this series of draws.

Cut-off scores and invitation numbers varied by draw, depending on the stream or pathway used.

Several rounds were the largest of their kind in Alberta so far this year. These included the May 29 Express Entry Accelerated Tech draw, the May 27 Alberta Opportunity Stream draw, and the May 22 agriculture and May 21 manufacturing rounds under the Express Entry Priority Sector pathway.

The May 20 draw also marked Alberta’s first selection round focused specifically on skilled trades linked to the construction sector.

More Than 7,800 Invited This Year

So far in 2026, Alberta has invited at least 7,819 AAIP candidates to apply for provincial nomination.

The Alberta Opportunity Stream makes up a large share of that total, with 4,850 invitations issued through the stream.

The province continues to use targeted draws to address workforce needs across specific sectors and communities.

Nomination Spaces Still Available

As of June 3, Alberta had used 2,587 nomination spaces from its 2026 federal allocation. The province reported 3,816 nomination spaces remaining.

The Alberta Opportunity Stream has a 2026 allocation of 3,425 spaces, with 1,394 nominations issued and 2,031 spaces remaining.

The Rural Renewal Stream has an allocation of 1,000, with 480 nominations issued. The Tourism and Hospitality Stream has 150 spaces, with 100 nominations already issued and 50 remaining.

Alberta has also issued nominations through dedicated healthcare pathways, the Accelerated Tech Pathway, priority sector draws, law enforcement pathways, and entrepreneur streams.

The province also used additional nomination spaces outside its regular PNP allocation to attract targeted groups, including 50 practice-ready physicians and 12 francophone candidates.

Large EOI Pool Remains

Alberta continues to have a large pool of candidates waiting for possible selection.

As of June 3, there were 38,292 worker Expressions of Interest in the AAIP pool. Of these, 63.4 per cent were submitted under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

The province also had 1,222 provincial nomination applications waiting to be processed.

The Alberta Opportunity Stream had the largest number of EOIs, with 24,276 profiles in the pool. The Express Entry Priority Sector pathway had 4,577 EOIs, while the Tourism and Hospitality Stream had 3,865.

The latest results show Alberta is continuing to target workers in areas where the province sees strong labour demand.
