Express Entry Pool Grows as CRS Competition Rises

Canada’s Express Entry pool is getting tougher as high-scoring profiles continue to rise.

Canada’s Express Entry pool became more crowded in May, with most of the recent growth coming from candidates with high Comprehensive Ranking System scores.

Between April 26 and May 24, the number of profiles in the federal Express Entry pool rose from 234,452 to 238,847, a net increase of 4,395. The biggest change came in the 501–600 CRS score range, which added 4,085 profiles during that period. That single group accounted for about 93 per cent of the pool’s overall growth.

The rise shows how competitive Express Entry has become, especially for candidates waiting for Canadian Experience Class invitations.

CEC Pause Adds Pressure

A major reason for the increase was a 29-day gap in Canadian Experience Class draws. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada did not hold a CEC-specific draw during that period, allowing high-scoring candidates to keep entering the pool without being removed through invitations.

As a result, the 501–600 range grew from 13,860 profiles to 17,945. By May 24, this group made up 7.51 per cent of the full Express Entry pool.

When CEC draws returned on May 27, IRCC issued 3,000 Invitations to Apply. The lowest-ranked candidate invited had a CRS score of 518, making it the highest CEC cut-off of 2026. The tie-breaking date for that draw was April 30, 2025.

Other Score Ranges Also Changed

The growth was not limited to the 501–600 range. Several upper-mid score bands also added candidates. The 471–480 range gained 553 profiles, while 481–490 added 508. The 461–470 group increased by 289 profiles. The 491–500 range also rose, adding 240 profiles.

Lower score ranges moved in the opposite direction. The 401–420 bands lost a combined 957 profiles. The 411–420 range saw the largest drop in that section, losing 554 profiles. The 351–400 range fell by 293 profiles, while the 301–350 range declined by 358.

These drops are in line with French-language proficiency draws, which often invite candidates from lower CRS ranges.

Recent Draws Not Yet Reflected

The May 24 pool data does not include three Express Entry draws held from May 25 to May 28. Together, those draws issued 7,834 invitations.

On May 28, IRCC invited 4,500 candidates in a French-language proficiency draw with a cut-off score of 409. On May 27, it invited 3,000 CEC candidates at 518. On May 25, it issued 334 invitations in a Provincial Nominee Program draw with a cut-off score of 805.

Those results are expected to reduce the pool, especially in the 401–410, 501–600, and 601–1200 score ranges.

Pool Remains Highly Competitive

The May 24 distribution placed candidates in the 501–600 range between the 92.35th and 99.86th percentile of the pool. Only 332 profiles sat in the 601–1200 range, representing 0.14 per cent of all candidates.

IRCC held four draws between April 26 and May 24, issuing 6,853 invitations. Even so, the pool still grew by 4,395 profiles. That means roughly 11,248 new profiles entered Express Entry during the four-week period.

The numbers suggest new candidates are joining faster than draws can remove them. For many applicants, especially those below the latest CEC cut-off, the pool remains tight and highly competitive.
