IRCC Reviews Glitch in French Express Entry Draw

IRCC says some eligible French-language Express Entry candidates did not receive invitations after a technical issue affected draw #418.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is reviewing a technical problem linked to Express Entry French-language draw #418, held on May 28, 2026.

The department has confirmed that some candidates who were eligible for the round did not receive an Invitation to Apply. These candidates had profiles that should have been considered in the category-based French-language draw, but the system did not issue invitations to them.

The issue has raised concern among candidates who were waiting for a chance to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry. IRCC has said it is aware of the problem and is now reviewing what happened.

The department has also told candidates that they do not need to take any action at this time.

What Happened in Draw #418

Draw #418 was a category-based Express Entry round for candidates with strong French-language skills.

These draws are used to support Canada’s goal of attracting more French-speaking newcomers, especially to communities outside Quebec. French-language draws have become an important part of Canada’s immigration strategy because they help strengthen Francophone communities across the country.

In this case, some candidates who met the requirements were not invited. The issue appears to have affected the automated invitation process that selects eligible candidates from the Express Entry pool.

According to the available information, the system skipped some profiles that should have received invitations. IRCC has not yet confirmed how many candidates were affected.

IRCC Checking System Records

IRCC’s technical teams are now reviewing the system records connected to the draw.

The goal is to find out why the invitation process missed certain eligible profiles. Officials are also trying to identify which candidates were affected and what steps may be needed next.

IRCC has not announced a firm timeline for completing the review. However, the department has said updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

For now, candidates are being asked to wait for official instructions.

Candidates Told Not to Resubmit

Candidates who believe they were affected should not resubmit their Express Entry profile or contact IRCC immediately.

They also do not need to update their documents unless there is another valid reason to do so. Taking action too early could create confusion or affect the status of an existing profile.

The best step for affected candidates is to monitor official IRCC updates and wait for the department to explain the next process.

Why This Matters

The issue matters because Express Entry is built around fairness, ranking, and clear selection rules.

Candidates invest months, and sometimes years, in improving their language scores, work experience, education records, and overall CRS profile. When an eligible candidate is missed because of a system error, it can affect major life plans.

The situation is especially important for French-language candidates, as Canada continues to use targeted draws to bring more bilingual newcomers into the country.

IRCC’s public acknowledgement of the issue is an important first step. Candidates will now be watching closely to see how the department resolves the problem and whether missed invitations will be corrected.
