Newfoundland and Labrador Sends 140 Invitations in August Draw

Newfoundland and Labrador selected 140 foreign nationals in its latest provincial immigration draw, offering another route toward Canadian permanent residence.

The province notified selected candidates on August 26. The invitations included 94 candidates through the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and 46 through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).

AIP invitations return

NLPNP candidates can submit an application for nomination, while AIP candidates can apply for endorsement. After receiving either, candidates can apply to the government for permanent residence in Canada.

Officials did not identify the NLPNP streams, occupations or sectors targeted.

This was the 12th selection round of 2026. It issued the highest number of AIP invitations since March 6, when the province issued 83. AIP invitations were absent from the previous draw on August 18, the first such occurrence since Newfoundland and Labrador introduced its Expression of Interest (EOI) intake in February 2025.

The draw had the lowest NLPNP total since July 28, when it issued 400.

Draws have varied in 2026

On March 6, Newfoundland and Labrador issued 445 invitations, including 362 NLPNP and 83 AIP. The March 30 draw had 245, with 209 NLPNP and 36 AIP. On April 13, it issued 210, including 177 NLPNP and 33 AIP.

On May 1, the province issued 190 invitations, including 157 NLPNP and 33 AIP. On May 11, it issued 186, including 168 NLPNP and 18 AIP. The May 28 draw had 103, with 84 NLPNP and 19 AIP.

On June 10, Newfoundland and Labrador issued 108 invitations, including 89 NLPNP and 19 AIP. The July 10 draw had 57, with 17 NLPNP and 40 AIP. July 28 brought 445 invitations, including 400 NLPNP and 45 AIP.

On August 10, it issued 208 invitations, including 186 NLPNP and 22 AIP. On August 18, all 122 invitations went through the NLPNP.

As of August 25, the province had issued 2,459 invitations for NLPNP nomination or AIP endorsement. NLPNP candidates received 84% of them.

How candidates enter

Candidates seeking an NLPNP nomination must first submit an EOI through the Immigration Accelerator Portal. The profile includes education, employment, language ability and settlement plans.

Except for entrepreneur streams, NLPNP candidates must have a valid job offer from an employer in the province. The immigration office reviews EOI profiles according to immigration and labour market priorities.

Selection can favour healthcare workers, candidates employed outside urban centres, French-language speakers and post-secondary graduates, among others.

An invitation gives candidates 60 days to submit an NLPNP application or AIP endorsement application. For NLPNP, the candidate submits the application; for AIP, the employer does.

Approved NLPNP candidates receive a nomination certificate, while AIP candidates receive an endorsement certificate. They can then apply for permanent residence federally.

As of August 10, processing times were 13 months for base PNP applications, seven months for enhanced PNP applications and 26 months for AIP applications.

An EOI remains active for 12 months. Candidates who receive no invitation must submit a new profile to remain eligible. For AIP candidates, the employer must resubmit the profile.
