A recent survey by Research Co. revealed a rising discontent among Canadians towards immigration, with 44% believing it has a negative impact on the country, up from 38% last year.
Concerns about housing availability and high living costs were cited as key factors influencing these views, particularly in British Columbia where 48% expressed a desire for reduced legal immigration.
The survey also highlighted tensions between provincial and federal leaders, exemplified by B.C. Premier David Eby criticizing Ottawa's allocation of funds for asylum-seekers, contrasting it with Quebec's substantial support. Federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller defended the allocations, emphasizing the proportionate distribution of asylum-seekers.
