IRCC Shares Latest Processing Times Update For Immigration In August 2025

Canada’s latest immigration update for August 2025 shows stable processing times in most areas, with noticeable improvements for PR cards, study permits, and visitor visa extensions.

Becoming a Canadian citizen is a dream for many newcomers. Processing times for citizenship remain steady this month. Grants of citizenship take about 10 months, while proof of citizenship certificates require around 5 months. Renunciation has improved to 5 months, down from 7. Record searches now take 14 months, one month faster than before. Applicants outside Canada or the U.S. should prepare for possible delays.

Permanent Residency Cards

PR cards remain a key document for travel and proof of status. New PR cards now take 37 days, slightly faster than before. Renewals take 30 days, which is a bit longer compared to last month. High application volumes drive these changes. Travellers should apply early to avoid problems with international plans.

Family Sponsorship

Families waiting to reunite face mixed timelines. Sponsorship outside Canada takes 13 months, while Quebec applications stretch up to 41 months. Inside Canada, sponsorship applications take 36 to 40 months, depending on location. Parents and grandparents see timelines from 36 to 48 months. Quebec’s longer waits result from its unique agreements with Ottawa.

Passports

Canadians planning travel have steady timelines. In-person passports are ready in 10 business days. Mail applications take 20 days. Urgent pick-up delivers by the next day, while express service takes two to nine days. For those applying from abroad, mailed passports also take 20 business days, but added verification may extend the wait.

Permanent Residency – Economic Class

Skilled workers and entrepreneurs see different timelines. Canadian Experience Class takes 5 months, while Federal Skilled Worker Program takes 7. Provincial Nominee Programs linked to Express Entry take 8 months. Non-Express Entry PNPs take 20 months. Quebec Skilled Worker remains at 9 months. The longest waits come from the Federal Self-Employed stream at 60 months and Start-Up Visa at 52 months.

Temporary Resident Visas

Temporary visas show the most variation by country. Visitor visas from India take 41 days, while U.S. applicants wait 23. Nigeria stands at 41 days, Pakistan at 47, and the Philippines at 24. Visitor visas inside Canada stay steady at 14 days. Visitor extensions improved to 183 days, down from 202.

For Super Visas, timelines vary widely. India now takes 134 days, Pakistan 125, the U.S. 79, Nigeria 57, and the Philippines 76.

Study permits also differ. India holds steady at 3 weeks, while U.S. applicants wait 7 weeks. Nigeria takes 5 weeks, Pakistan 9, and the Philippines 8. Inside Canada, permits improved to 7 weeks, down from 11.

Work permits outside Canada range from 3 to 8 weeks depending on the country. Inside Canada, extensions take about 182 days.

Processing times shift often. IRCC updates PR cards and temporary visas weekly, while citizenship and family sponsorship updates arrive monthly. Applicants should submit complete documents, monitor updates, and apply early to avoid delays. Quebec applicants need extra patience due to provincial processes.
