Canada’s latest Express Entry pause is raising questions about future CRS cutoffs.
Immigration candidates are watching closely after Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada did not hold an Express Entry draw this week.
As of Wednesday, June 10, 2026, no Canadian Experience Class draw, French-language draw, occupation-based draw, or Provincial Nominee Program draw had been issued. The missing PNP round is drawing the most attention because PNP draws had been the most regular Express Entry draw type in 2026.
A PNP draw was widely expected around June 8. That would have been 14 days after the May 25 PNP draw, which issued 334 invitations with a CRS cutoff of 805.
Earlier in the year, PNP rounds had followed a steady two-week pattern. The May 11 PNP draw also came exactly 14 days after the April 27 draw. This week’s silence has raised questions about whether IRCC’s draw schedule is changing.
One possible reason is a technical problem already acknowledged by IRCC. The department’s official rounds page says some candidates did not receive invitations in the May 28 French-language proficiency round, also known as round 418.
That draw issued 4,500 invitations with a CRS cutoff of 409. IRCC said it is reviewing the situation and told candidates they do not need to take action.
If the issue is still under review, IRCC may be avoiding new draws until the problem is fixed. In that case, the delay may not mean a long-term change in draw planning.
The other possibility is that IRCC is moving away from the biweekly rhythm that candidates saw earlier in the year.
The last CEC draw was held on May 27. It issued 3,000 invitations at CRS 518. That draw came 29 days after the previous CEC round on April 28, marking the longest CEC gap of 2026 so far.
When CEC draws were held every two weeks from January to April, CRS cutoffs mostly stayed between 507 and 515. When the gap stretched to 29 days in May, the cutoff rose to 518, even though IRCC invited more candidates.
A longer pause gives more candidates time to enter the pool, improve language scores, gain Canadian work experience, or receive provincial nominations.
IRCC’s May 24 pool data showed the number of candidates scoring between 501 and 600 rose from 13,860 to 17,945 between April 26 and May 24. That was an increase of 4,085 profiles in just four weeks.
This is the same score range where many CEC cutoffs fall. As more people enter that band, competition increases.
If a CEC draw happens soon, the cutoff may remain close to the May 27 level. If IRCC waits until late June, the CRS score could move higher.
Candidates below CRS 520 may want to look at provincial nomination options, improve language scores, or check category-based draw eligibility. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points, while French ability can help candidates access lower-scoring category draws.
For now, IRCC has not announced a pause or a permanent schedule change. But the predictable draw pattern seen earlier in 2026 is no longer certain.
